This feast celebrates Mary as the Mother of God. The Gospel readings for this year portray the visiting shepherds informing Joseph and Mary that the angels had announced that their son is Savior, Messiah, and Lord. The scripture tells us that Mary kept all these things in her heart. Then the shepherds glorified and praised God for all that had been revealed to them.
The Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation this year.
This year, this Feast straddles the weekend, with the Vigil occuring on Saturday, December 31 (2022), and the Feast on Sunday, January 1 (2023).
