 SHINE: Summer Camp 2010 - for current grades 6, 7, 8 - June 24th - 27th, Forest Glen Christian Camp in Huntsville.  $200 includes lodging, BUS, meals, ALL activities, and T-shirt. Deadline for Registration is April 25th. Limited space is available, so sign up now! $75.00 Deposit is required with Registration to ensure your place at camp.  Fundraising info is available - check with the Youth Office.  (Please see below for all forms and info)

BELOVE: Mission 2010 - July 17th - 24th
Information and Sign-Up meeting - Sunday, March 28th - 2:00-4:00 pm, Angelina Room $75 Deposit required with Registration and will guarantee position on the 2010 Youth on a Mission trip, first come, first serve basis.

Confirmation
Confirmation II (grade 12) 2010 - Sunday, October 10, 2010, 3 pm with Bishop Vasquez -Reception in Hall to follow.
Confirmation I (grade 11) or older, who have been baptized and have received First Communion, are eligible for St. Michael's Confirmation Program for Teens - a two year program.  Mandatory Confirmation Retreat I Retreat: SPIRIT AND LIFE, January 22-24, 2010 at Christian Renewal Center in Dickenson.  

Candidate Sponsor Nights:  Wednesdays, February 3rd and April 14, 7:00 pm, FLC

Mission Statement

St. Michael's Youth Ministry seeks to help young people with personal and spiritual growth and seeks to draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of this faith community.

Program Goals

The overall goals for the Youth Ministry Program at St. Michael's are derived from Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry as published by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops in June 1997. The overall goals are consistent with and support the Three Year Goals established by the Youth Ministry Envision Program team in 2007.

Goal 1: To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.

Goal 2: To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.

Goal 3: To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.

Objectives

Youth Ministry promotes and designs programs and activities such as:

Jr. High serves to minister to7th and 8th grade youth. Classes meet on Sunday evenings at 6:30- 8:30 p.m. September through April in the Spiritual Learning Center.Coordinator - Lisa Ondrey, 299-3509

High Schoolopen to all high school youth 9th through 12th grades on Sunday evenings 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Praise and Worship first in the Family Life Center. September through April. Coordinator - Mike Marshall, 299-3508

Confirmation is a sacramental program designed for young people who are in the 11th 12th grades and have a personal desire for the reception of this sacrament. This program is a two-year program with the first year being catechesis and retreats. The second year is a continuation of the catechesis, the reception of the sacrament, and a commitment to involvement in one of the various ministries within the parish community. There are also monthly Candidate/Sponsor meets onvarious topics. Classes meet in the Spiritual Learning Center, 2nd Floor, on Sunday evenings 6:30 -8:30 p.m. September through April. The Confirmation Ceremony is usually held in October. Coordinators -Barb and John White 265-6811

R.C.I.T. is a catechetical process for youth 12 - 18 years of age, who are seeking the sacrament of Baptism, First Reconciliation and First Communion. Classes are Sunday mornings in the Spiritual Learning Center, 9:15 a.m.   Coordinator - Betty Betczynski

Bible Study looks at the scripture readings for Sunday liturgies and leads participant into a personal reflection and response during weekly evening meetings.

Activities

Youth Ministry promotes and designs activities such as Social Events, Community Service Experiences, Retreats, Summer Camp, Mission, Drama Experiences, Praise Worship, Graduation Mass Luncheon, etc.

Social Events: Kick-Off Social, Dodge ball, Bowling, Rectory Christmas Tree Trimming, Ski Trip, etc.

Community Service: Canned Goods Collection, Christmas Toy Drive, Thanksgiving Food Baskets, Faith In Action work projects.

Retreats:Overnight experiences that enhance the spiritual life of the participants and to get away from everyday life for 9th- 12th graders3 or 4 times per year on various topics; N.E.T. (National Evangelization Team) -a group of young adults that travel across the U.S. to present retreats full of skits, dramas, games, talks prayer, music, and fun.

Summer Camp: open for grades 6th- 8th, inJune. 3 nights and 4 days experience atCarolina Creeknear Huntsville, which involves swimming, canoeing, crafts, ropes course, volleyball, basketball, ping-pong, foosball, horseback riding, and a spiritual enrichment program.

Mission: a week long service experience in July for 9th- 12th grade youth and adults in San Juan, TX to serve the needy people of the Rio Grande Valley through teaching Vacation Bible School and Work Projects.

Drama: a youth-led production of the Stations of the Cross presented on a Friday during Lent.

Praise Worship - an opportunity for youth grades 6th- 12th to gather in song and worship.

Graduation Mass Luncheon - to honor the graduating seniors of the Parish held in May.
