The "You've Got The Time" program is a component of the Year of the Bible and the archdiocesan Word of God initiative. Cardinal DiNardo committed the parishes of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston to participate in the "You've Got The Time" program during 2009. |
What: |
The "You've Got The Time" listening program is based on committing to listen to the recorded New Testament for approx.
28 minutes per day for 40 days. By so doing, you will have listened to the entire New Testament. |
Partner: |
The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston is being provided in partnership with a bible organization, Faith Comes By Hearing. By securing donations from businesses in the Houston area, Faith Comes By Hearing will provide to our parishes for distribution to the faithful free MP3 formatted CD's for listening to the New Testament. |
When: |
The Parish of St. Michael is implementing "You've Got The Time" and encouraging our faithful to participate during the season of Lent in 2009. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 25. |
Bible Translation: |
The program being implemented in the archdiocese and in our parish consists of the New American Bible, which is the "Catholic" translation used in our formation and liturgies. |
What is Provided: |
A free copy of an MP3 formatted CD of the NAB New Testament is available at no charge for every adult in the parish. A free copy of an MP3 formatted CD of Kids Bible Stories is free for every child in the parish, age 7-11. |
Cost: |
As stated, the MP3 discs are provided at no cost to the parishes and our faithful. Each participating parish is asked to take up a good will offering to be used for bible based initiatives at our direction. No level of giving is stipulated. For individuals who want to purchase either Bible Sticks or a set of Audio CD's, the cost for either would be $20. |
MP3 Format: |
The use of the MP3 format allows the entire New Testament to be recorded on a single CD. This CD will play on any computer and on most TV set-top DVD players. For more instructions on using these disks, go HERE. These instructions also describe how to transfer the MP3 files from this CD to other MP3 devices (IPods, Zunes, etc.). |

If you need the ability to listen to the New Testament via a car player or other non-MP3 player, you may purchase a Bible Stick or a set of Audio CD's. These sell for $20 each and may be obtained directly from Faith Come By Hearing. Instructions for purchasing these can be found on the inner leaflet of the MP3 CD box. |

The recommended breakdown of which books and chapters to listen to for each of the 40 days is described in the inner leaflet of the MP3 CD box. It can also be found in the instruction packet ( HERE ). |
Reflection Questions: |
A great aid to the listening program would be to reflection on questions which have been devised for each day of the 40 day content. These reflection questions can be found in the instruction packet ( HERE ). |
