Overview |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
On the First Sunday of Advent, November 27, 2011, we will begin to use a new English translation of the Roman Missal, which will replace the book we currently use for Mass, the Sacramentary. The new book is a translation from Latin to English of the Third Typical Edition of the Roman Missal. This new edition was approved by Pope John Paul II in 2000. The new English translation will bring some changes in the wording of the familiar responses and prayers spoken and sung at Mass. The new language may help us to reflect more deeply on the meaning of what we are saying or singing. To prepare our parish family to be comfortable with these upcoming changes, a project team has been working since February, 2011, to prepare for this transition. This will include an awareness period over the course of the summer followed by more in-depth formation in the fall. Beginning on the weekend of July 10, we are providing a brief introduction to the Roman Missal. In following weekends, you will learn why the changes are happening, and see our parish implementation plan. Beginning in September, we will learn more about each part of the Mass during the homily, and will start practicing some of the new wording and music. Our goal is to have everyone more familiar with the Mass itself and comfortable with the new responses before we start using them officially on November 27th. Today, we begin with the first in a series of articles explaining the change (see page 3 of the bulletin). Additional information can be found on this website, including links to detailed information provided by USCCB, our Archdiocese and other valuable sources. We hope that these resources and the presentations at Mass will help you to become comfortable with this new Mass dialogue.
